A J2EE Developer is responsible for:

Requirements to be a J2EE Developer

To qualify as a J2EE developer one must have a BS in Computer Science or a related Four year Computer Science degree from a reputable university. Extensive experience with Java and J2EE is required. Other than Java and J2EE which are the basic skills required to qualify for this post, some other skills required by most of the companies to be a J2EE developer are .NET, Struts, JSP, Hibernate, EJB, Web sphere, portals, enterprise integration, user experience, collaboration and content management etc. Again it is not important to know everything. One can always learn other things once he knows the basics. Many companies require candidates to be expert in any one or two of the above mentioned things.

Also a J2EE Developer must:
  • Have the ability to quickly adjust with the running practices of the organization and learn and follow established methods.
  • Have the ability to stay in touch with new and emerging technologies and apply them for their applications improvement
  • Be capable of providing timely solutions to clients
  • Be able to create innovative, result-oriented and effective solutions
  • Be able to work in a team in a professional manner, must be a team player
  • Be able to manage stress as this job is absolutely goal oriented and requires delivery on tough deadlines. Thus the candidate must have time management skills to provide quality solutions under stressful and demanding situations.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills so as to communicate the new developed applications to the client clearly in an understandable manner
  • Be able to use research and analysis to create technical documents
  • Must be able to learn new technologies
To acquire a job in a good company and acquire a good salary package one needs to have a minimum of 4 years of experience in Java and associated technologies.

The latter generally happens when the J2EE Developer is hired for a specific project and this usually ranges from $60 to $80 per hour. Some companies offer salaries to a J2EE Developer at an average of $75,000 to $100,000 per year and if hired as a Lead J2EE Developer then the average salary could be $180K per year. Thus salaries for J2EE Developer vary greatly depending upon the company, responsibilities assigned and the experience of the candidate.

As per a survey conducted in 2009 the per year average salaries for java developers is $105,000, for J2EE developers is $107,000, for senior java developers is $120,000 and for senior java J2EE developers is $123,000 annually.
